Tata Curvv: A New Challenger to the Creta Throne?
Tata Motors is set to disrupt the compact SUV segment once again with its upcoming coupe-styled crossover, the Curvv. This stylish offering is poised to take on the segment leader, the Hyundai Creta, head-on. Let’s dive into what this new contender has to offer.
A Stylish Departure
The Tata Curvv promises to break away from the traditional SUV mold with its sleek and modern design. Expect a coupe-like roofline, sharp lines, and bold styling elements. The front fascia is likely to feature Tata’s signature grille and split headlamp design, while the rear will get connected LED taillights. The overall design is expected to be a blend of style and practicality, catering to a younger audience.
Powertrain Options
When it comes to the engine, the Curvv will get Nexon’s 1.5-litre diesel and 1.2-litre turbo petrol engines. The 1.5-litre diesel will produce slightly more power at 116bhp & 260Nm of torque. At the same time, the 1.2-litre turbo petrol is the same unit producing the same amount of power at 118bhp & 170Nm of torque. Finally, the new 1.2-litre TGDi engine will also debut which is capable of producing 123bhp & 225Nm of torque. All these engines will be available with manual and DCA gearbox options only.
Last but not least, curvv will also be available in an EV version (electric) that comes with two battery options, one is a 45 kWh unit and another is a 55 kWh unit. they will give a range of 502 and 585 Kms as claimed by Tata. We can expect a real-world range of around 400 to 450 Kms.
Features and Interiors
Tata has made significant strides in terms of features and technology, and Curvv carries forward this trend. It has got connected car tech suite, a large touchscreen infotainment system as we have seen in Safari, a premium audio system, and a host of safety features. The interior is likely to be driver-focused and feature a modern design.
Moreover, faux leather is used on the dashboard and upholstery which look and feel so premium for the segment. The curvv also hosts the much-needed feature that is ventilated seats. However, due to the coupe design, the headroom in the rear seat is quite less which will be a matter of concern for tall people (taller than 6ft) and also for people wearing turbans. The legroom is sufficient in the rear seat.
Price Expectations
Tata has a reputation for offering competitive pricing, and Curvv is no exception to follow suit. The Curvv is price between 13 to 24 Laks (ex-showroom Mumbai), it could pose a serious threat to the Creta’s dominance as the EV version which is supposed to be expensive but is priced at Rs 18.5 lakh to Rs 23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) also undercuts the Hyundai Creta’s price that is Rs 13.04 lakh to Rs 24.46 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)
Creta vs Curvv: A Battle of the Titans?
The Hyundai Creta has been a consistent top-seller, thanks to its strong brand image, feature-rich offerings, and reliable performance. The Tata Curvv will have to work hard to challenge its supremacy. While the Creta offers a more conventional SUV design and a wider range of variants, the Curvv could appeal to buyers looking for a stylish and modern alternative.
Ultimately, the success of the Curvv will depend on its pricing, feature list, and driving dynamics. If Tata manages to deliver a compelling package, we could be looking at a potential upset in the compact SUV segment.
